I made this Memory Can as a baby shower gift last week. It is made from a paper mache box, DSP, and MDS! I actually planned to use a paint pail but this project evolved into something totally different than originally planned.
I started by painting the outside of the container and lid with white paint. You can see what the starting color was from the inside of the container in this picture. I used sticky strip to attach the Storytime Designer Series Paper to the container and side of the lid.
I used My Digital Studio to decorate the lid of this container. I found a poem on Splitcoast Stampers and filled a circle punch the size of the lid with the text of the poem. I added and resized a circle stamp. I printed it on So Saffron card stock to match the DSP. I used my circle cutter to cut out the 5-1/2" circle and used Tombow Multipurpose Glue to attach the card stock to the lid.
I also used My Digital Studio to create these "memory cards" that go inside the Memory Can. They are all the same except for the strip of color at the top. All the colors and patterns coordinate with My Digital Studio so it was easy to choose which colors to pick. I used the very trendy hexagon punch in MDS to be used as a "check-box". I designed one card, duplicated the card with various colors, exported the "cards" as .jpg files and then inserted 4 to a 8-1/2" x 11" page on MDS and cut the page down in 4ths to get each card.
I also used Storytime DSP inside the barrel of the pen so it coordinated with the set. I had so much fun making this project and once I figured out what I was doing it took very little time to put together.
Now that I have the digital file created in MDS it will be easy to replicate this project for future gift ideas! This as the first time I made something like this but I have ideas for birthday, teacher, retirement, and other special occasion gifts using this type of project!
